robbie keane talks to the view

Laura Brannan
ROBBIE Keane - the goal scoring machine. It almost sounds like the start of a song.

The big-name January transfer just can’t stop hitting the back of the net, with another two on Sunday against Falkirk, bringing his total to five in just over a month for the Hoops.

But even the man who scores goals for fun knows the season run-in is all about how many points Celtic can rack up and not how many times he can get his name on the scoresheet.

The Irishman would be happy to put his own trademark celebrations on hold if it meant winning every remaining game of the season and catching Rangers as the title challenge heats up and he spoke exclusively to this week’s Celtic View.

“It’s always nice to score goals, especially as a striker,” he told the View, “But I think the most important thing is getting the results at this stage, getting the three points and getting the crowd behind us as much as we can.”

Keane’s weekend brace showed why he’s a fans’ favourite as he rounded up the points for Celtic and made the scoring look easy.

But he knows his tally isn’t the most important thing to be worrying about, regardless of how top-class his finishes were in the 2-0 win.

“I think considering the standard of the pitch, which wasn’t the best, we played well. I think we controlled the game for long periods and on a bad pitch like that it can be difficult, but I think we did really well.

“I’m pleased with the first goal because there was quick build-up play and a good ball from Morten Rasmussen. I was lucky enough to get a touch and put it between the goalkeepers’ legs.

“The second was some quick thinking from Marc Crosas and luckily enough, I finished it off as well.

“But the most important thing at this stage is getting results and when you’re playing on bad pitches like we did on Sunday, sometimes it’s not going to be pretty but you have to dig in as a team and we did that at the weekend.”
