SARAH Ewens bagged her 51st goal for the Celtic FC Women's side on Sunday, which secured all three points for the Ghirls against Spartans.

Ewens, who scored a stunning 50th strike for the Celts the previous week against Hearts, got her second goal of the season after pouncing on a mistake by the Spartans defender to keep up the Hoops’ good start to the new campaign.

By her own admission, the strike wasn't among her best, but that didn't overshadow the goal which ensured back-to-back wins in the SWPL 1.

“We are delighted to get the three points, it was a hard game against Spartans," said Ewans. “It has come down to one goal and it’s got us the three points and I’ve helped the team. It is probably not my finest goal, but I’ll take it!

“I just think, when you put them under pressure it can always lead to a mistake. I’ve just went for the ball, luckily she’s turned one way and I’ve intercepted it and it has gone into the back of the net. Happy with it of course, it is a goal and I will take any goal.

Despite being ruled out of her side's season-opener against Glasgow City due to a calf injury, Ewens returned to score in back-to-back games for the Celts.

She added: “I am happy to be back, but still at the point where I can’t quite do 90 minutes as of yet. But, happy to be back on the pitch. I got a calf injury just before the Glasgow City match it was very frustrating.

"Going into that game, I wasn’t fully fit and I wasn’t able to play my game at all. However, the last two games, I have been able to push on and try to show what I can do, so I am delighted to be back from injury.

“I'm always looking forward to the derby, it is one of those fixtures you look out for every season. There will be a lot of focus on next week.

“The last two games has gave us confidence, we played well today, we controlled the game well. It has put us in good stead for next week"
