An Adam Brooks goal on 19 minutes was enough to give the Celtic B side a well-deserved victory over Dalbeattie Star, though on the balance of play and number of chances created, the margin of victory could and should have been much higher for Tommy McIntyre’s side.

Celtic controlled the tempo of the game from the first whistle, with Owen Moffat at the heart of Celtic’s attacking intentions.

And it was Moffat who had the Hoops first chance on seven minutes, gathering ball 30 yards form goal before firing a shot that went just over.

On 19 minutes, he turned provider for the opening goal of the game. Feeding the ball out wide to Bruno Davidson, Moffat made the run forward, gathering the return pass and surging into the box before firing a low ball into the six-yard box which Adam Brooks was on hand to convert.

Dalbeattie Star, who had rarely ventured out of their own half, had their first clear chance of the afternoon on 24 minutes, but the header from 12 yards out went wide of the target.

And Celtic could have doubled their lead soon after. Tsoanelo Letsosa’s first effort was deflected wide for a corner, and then just moments later, following a clever short corner from the Hoops, the ball was cleared out to the edge of the box.

Letsosa controlled the ball but his shot from 18 yards out went just wide.

Three minutes later, and Davidson was set clear by a wonderful ball through the inside-right channel from Joe Murphy, but his effort was pushed behind for a corner.

Tommy McIntyre’s side continued to press for another goal, and Moffat showed some great skill in the inside-left channel to get away from two opponents, but his shot from 23 yards out went wide of the target.

And just before the break, captain Bosun Lawal headed over from a Mackenzie Carse free-kick.

Chances were at a premium in the second half, although Letsosa was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet with two efforts.

The first just after the hour mark followed a brilliant run down the left wing from Brooks. He fed Moffat who laid it off to Letsosa, but his shot was saved by the keeper’s legs.

Three minutes later, the Celtic midfielder had another effort, but this time his shot from just inside the box went over the bar.

Moffat had a chance following good work downt he right from Davidson, but he couldn't get a good connection on it, but the young Celts comfortably saw out the game to take all three points.
