The Celtic B Team overcame Annan Athletic 2-0 in the SPFL Trust Trophy this evening (Wednesday) in what was a dominant victory for the home side. After the match, a delighted Tommy McIntyre described the win as a professional performance.

An early Lee O’Connor strike gave the Hoops the lead on the night, before Scott Robertson made it two with 73 minutes on the clock. The manager had made seven changes to the side which defeated Bo’ness United in the Lowland League on Saturday, with a number of players who have been in and around the Celtic first-team this year stepping into the B team's starting XI.

“I thought it was a really professional performance,” Tommy McIntyre told Celtic TV after the game. “We had a few boys down from the first-team and I thought their attitude was first-class and they blended in really well with the boys we’ve been working with.

“That was pleasing, the attitude, the tempo of the game and the manner in which we scored the goals, it was a good performance.”

Tommy McIntyre said that despite dominating the match, at 1-0 the match was still finely balanced. He hailed the prowess and presence of mind of Scott Robertson in the build up to his 73^rd-minute goal, and said his players likely deserved more than their two-goal advantage.

He added: “When it was 1-0, they were putting a little bit of pressure on us particularly with long balls going into the box, but we were resolute in how we defended.

‘We missed a couple of chances, we hit the post, but I always felt the second goal would be the one that would win us the game.’

“It was a great goal from Scott Robertson, really quick thinking from him. I thought we moved the ball about well, the full-backs came in and played inverted at times and just controlled the middle of the park.

“The energy levels of the players were great too, they gave everything for 90 minutes. The first team guys who have come down will be happy with the game time, the fitness levels and for us it’s great as well with a good performance all round.”
