Reflecting on the display after the match, manager Tommy McIntyre said he was pleased with the quality shown from his side at both ends of the pitch.

“It was a really tough game," he said. "I could see Berwick have a fair bit of experience in their team and they made it really difficult for us but some of our play in the first half was exceptional. I thought they played well and started better in the second half but we had that two-goal cushion and managed the game well. Anything they threw at us was dealt with by the back four and Ryan Mullen in goals who did excellently to get the clean sheet.

“Darren [O’Dea] did a lot of work with the back four during the week and I worked with the attacking players. We said to them when they had to get in around the box to press and look for balls down the side with combinations.

'You could see that in the way we played and moved the ball about and we have that type of player with pace in behind who can create problems for defences. There’s been a lot of benefits from the training and it’s good to see it out on the pitch.'

The Celtic B Team manager also praised the two-goal scorers for not only their goals but their all-around play in the final third.

“I have to say Vata’s goal was an excellent finish,” said Tommy McIntyre. “Brooks, who had missed on earlier, had a really composed finish for his goal which was great to see.

“It’s a big ask of Rocco because he’s only 16 and I don’t make an apology of that but he’s taking his chance and scoring goals. That’s two in the last two games and he deserves it. He’s that type of player who’ll always give defenders a problem. He’s got great pace and a great temperament on the pitch. He’s progressing really well.

“Benny Jackson at right-back is only 16 as well but they’re forming a good partnership, they’re right in amongst it and making the most of the great opportunity.

“Brooks was excellent when he came on against the University of Stirling and he just continued it tonight. We’re were always going to give him 60/70 minutes to build his fitness up and he’ll probably be frustrated to miss the first chance but it’s great to see him score his goal and all great strikers thrive on scoring goals which he did tonight and I thought he thoroughly deserve it.”
