Ange Postecoglou said the most pleasing aspect of Celtic’s 2-1 win against Charlton Athletic was seeing his players implement the ideas he has been trying to weave into their style of play.

Celtic made it two wins from two under their new manager thanks to goals from Karamoko Dembele and Albian Ajeti. The Hoops were in control from start to finish and gave Ange Postecoglou plenty to think about as he continues his preparations for the first competitive game in 10 days’ time against FC Midtjylland in the Champions League qualifiers.

Speaking to Celtic TV immediately after the game, the Australian manager said he was pleased with periods of Celtic’s performance and their overall work ethic throughout the 90 minutes.

“The first half was quite good, we controlled the game pretty well. in the second half it got a little bit stretched and chaotic but to be fair, for a lot of these guys it’s their first game for quite a while but they worked hard and that’s the main thing.

“We still need to improve on everything.

'It’s still only the beginning for us so all we can do is focus on a little bit of improvement day-to-day.'

"We have another game coming up against Bristol City so we’ll build towards that and, hopefully, improve our performance a little bit from today.”

The one aspect of the game which the manager said pleased him most was seeing the players playing in the style he was expecting of them.

“Some of them looked a little bit rusty with their touch but that’ll come. We’re working hard in training as well which probably has an effect in terms of fatigue in the games. The most important thing for me is they’re trying to do the things we’re talking about and as long as they do that we can progress.

“They all worked hard. For me, what’s most important is the intend shown by the whole team. We’re trying to keep the ball and be aggressive when we lost the ball. I thought we had a better shape, especially in the first half, so they’re the key things.”
