Liam Shaw is eager to show Ange Postecoglou what he can offer the team and said he will only be thinking about winning when he comes up against his former club Sheffield Wednesday this week.

Celtic will play the first of three pre-season friendlies in Wales tomorrow (Wednesday) with Ange Postecoglou’s first game in charge as Celtic manager coming against Sheffield Wednesday. The Hoops will then take on Charlton on July 10 and Bristol City on July 14 before heading back to Glasgow.

The trio of fixtures will be Shaw’s first chance to play in the Hoops and the 20-year-old is hopeful he will be able to impress his new manager.

“I’m looking forward to it,” he said. “We have three games coming up which will be our focus. We’ll look to get the fitness up during pre-season but we obviously want to win the games and put on a good show.

'I just want to get out there now and show my ability, hopefully, play well and show the gaffer what I’m about.'

Celtic’s first opponents will be familiar to Shaw who came up through the ranks at Sheffield Wednesday. He made 24 appearances for the first-team, the majority of which came before his 20^th birthday.

Now the Celtic midfielder will come up against his former team-mates as he begins his bid for a place in the Hoops first-team.

“I know all the lads really well and they know how I play, so it’ll be challenging,” said Shaw. “It’ll be nice to see a few familiar faces but I’ll just go there, give 100 per cent and see how it goes.

“It’ll be a tough game. They won’t make it easy at all. They’ve got a lot of good players there but we have to play our football, play the way we want to play and not worry about any other team.

“It’s going to be weird, to be honest, but it’s just like any other game of football once you’re on the pitch. You don’t really think about anything other than winning so I’m looking forward to it.”
