The final Glasgow derby of the 2020/21 season proved to be another disappointing occasion for Celtic, as they went down 4-1 at Ibrox to their city rivals.

Kemar Roofe opened the scoring on 26 minutes, with Callum McGregor picking up a second yellow card in the build-up to that goal, putting the Hoops at a numerical disadvantage.

Odsonne Edouard equalised three minutes later before Alfredo Morelos restored Rangers’ lead. And there were further goals for the home side in the second half from Roofe with his second of the game and Jermain Defoe in added time.

Celtic started the match confidently and were moving the ball well, although neither side were able to create any clear-cut chances in the opening exchanges.

The home side had a chance on 10 minutes when Tavernier delivered a dangerous cross to the back post, but Morelos was unable to convert.

Callum McGregor picked up a yellow card on 23 minutes for a challenge on Ryan Kent, while a minute later, the Hoops were denied the opening goal when Mohamed Elyounoussi’s 25-yard shot was tipped on to the bar by Allan McGregor.

However, two minutes later the home side took the lead. Kent’s mis-hit shot was chested into the net by Kemar Roofe, and things got worse for Celtic with Callum McGregor picking up his second yellow in the build-up to the goal for a challenge on Glen Kamara.

Despite going down to 10 men, the Hoops equalised three minutes later. A Turnbull corner into the box was headed back into the six-yard box by Kris Ajer and Edouard was quickest to pounce, heading home to restore parity.

Unfortunately, that didn’t last long, with the home side scoring again just three minutes later when Morelos fired into the roof of the net at Scott Bain’s left-hand post.

Celtic continued pushing for an equaliser, with Ajer setting up James Forrest. The winger cut inside but his left foot shot was deflected wide for a corner.

And just before the break, Steven Davis came to Rangers’ rescue when he slid in to take the ball off Edouard’s foot as he glided into the box.
