Celtic B goalkeeper Ryan Mullen says spirits in the camp are high ahead of the side’s Lowland League match against Broomhill on Saturday.

The Bhoys will be back on home turf at the Penny Cars Stadium at 1pm – their third game in just eight days.

The Celtic keeper feels the last few games have taught the young Hoops a lot. He said: “We’ve debriefed and the boys are confident. Nothing’s going to dampen their spirits because they're always eager to go and play games.”

Last Saturday, Celtic B travelled across the border to face Berwick Rangers and beat the Shielfield Park side 2-0.

On Tuesday night, they faced Spartans in Edinburgh, succumbing to a 2-1 defeat in the 90^th minutre. Mullen added: “Spartans were a really experienced side and that was a good learning curve, especially for the young boys because we had a lot away on international duty.”

Mullen expects Broomhill to be another physical battle and said: “They’re going to be direct and will come at us with everything.

‘Every team that wants to play against Celtic wants to put a marker down.’

“We’ll be prepared for it and we’re looking forward to it.”

The 20-year-old was kept busy between the sticks on Tuesday, making plenty of saves and tactical decisions and he knows that playing in the Lowland League is all about building up game time.

He said: “As a goalkeeper, you need the 90 minutes. Especially with the 90 minutes against these teams, there’s always going to be one instance where you’re called into action.

“I’m having to deal with a lot of cross-balls and there’s a lot of physical contact because these teams are really dangerous at set plays and they’re direct.

“I’m mostly getting challenged when it comes to having to organise my back four and my starting positions and dealing with crosses.”

Mullen, who signed his first professional contract with the club as a 16-year-old in 2017, has been under the guidance of goalkeeping coach Colin Meldrum for many years.

“Melly is brilliant. He doesn’t just help us with the goalkeeping aspect of things. I think he’s a great people person. It’s very rare to have a man like him who’s so honest and direct,” he added.
