A lot of questions were being asked at the end of Tuesday night’s City of Glasgow Cup draw against Clyde following some last-gasp drama.

The referee sent off Conor Hazard in the last few minutes of the game for a challenge just outside the box on Clyde’s David Goodwillie and also awarded the home team a penalty.

Goodwillie lined up his shot against keeper Ryan Mullen, who swapped on for Owen Moffat, and sent him the wrong way to equalise in the closing seconds of the game.

Up and until that dramatic point the Celtic B team had shown much control throughout the majority of the match.

After a positive first-half from the young Hoops, the half-time whistle blew without an opener having been found, despite several attempts.

In the 15th minute Rocco Vata’s cross found Joey Dawson but his shot was too high. Then Dawson got a sliding touch on Ben Wylie’s cross into the box which rebounded off the bar. Dawson also almost caught out Clyde keeper Josh Bradley-Hurst as he took too long to redistribute the ball.

Come the half an hour mark Celtic were playing with style as captain Brody Paterson back-heeled the ball to Wylie in the box but his strike edged wide.

Letsosa had an opportunity from Wylie who fed the ball into space but it was another shot which went wide.

Clyde made four changes at the break and in the 50^th minute, Euan Deveney struck the bar with a strong hit from distance.

But a minute later it was Celtic’s Wylie who’s angled shot found the corner of the net from inside the box.

Celtic looked confident they could hold on to the lead and were searching for another to seal the win with Vata and substitute Adam Brooks having attempts at goal.

However, with just minutes to go Hazard came charging out of his box to Goodwillie on the attack and was subsequently red carded for the action. Goodwillie landed in the box from the challenge and was awarded a penalty.

Questions were raised about double jeopardy but both decisions stood, and the penalty was awarded, taken, and conceded.

The match finished with a draw and both teams taking away a point in the first match of the City of Glasgow Cup.
