For Lucy Ashworth-Clifford, Sunday’s meeting with Partick Thistle presented a different challenge to last weeks 9-0 win over Hibernian.

The tricky forward has only played two competitive games in Scotland but already knows the importance of taking every game as it comes, as she recorded her first competitive goal for the Hoops in a stuffy 2-0 win over Partick Thistle on Sunday.

Speaking to Celtic TV after the game at a sun-soaked Petershill Park, the 23-year-old spoke about the importance of discipline and concentration.

She said: “Obviously it was very tough. The weather wasn’t on our side so we pushed through and mental toughness played a big part today.

'We had chances but the weather doesn’t help but we kept pushing through and the girls were all tough today.'

“A 9-0 win means we need to keep up the high standards at training and at games and Thistle did really well to find and adapt to our strengths and done well to only let us score twice.”

Joining from Lewes in the English Championship during the summer, the winger has had an intense introduction to the Scottish game and while loving life in the Hoops, she’s acutely aware of how important it is to keep standards high and not underestimate anyone.

“I was just asked what being in the Championship is like compared to here, and it’s the exact same,” she explained.

“Every game you don’t know what you’ll get, no game is easy and you need to go in full whack or you can lose games.

"These are the points you need to pick up or else you can slip down the table but I think we’ve done very well and I’m really happy with the girls.

“We’ve been given a day off to get some extra rest so we need to now come in on Wednesday at full whack ahead of Spartans on Sunday.”
