Celtic are top of the Premiership tree over Christmas, with the 4-1 victory over St Johnstone on Christmas Eve putting Ange Postecoglou’s side nine points clear at the top of the table.

The Hoops are back in action this Wednesday (December 28) when they travel through to Easter Road to face Hibernian, determined to maintain that strong lead in the league campaign.

James Forrest returned to the starting XI for the game against St Johnstone and provided another assist – his 101st as a Celtic player – for Kyogo’s second goal of the game.

And the 31-year-old was delighted to play his part in an impressive home win for the Hoops.

Speaking ahead of the midweek clash in the Scottish capital after enjoying a rare training-free Christmas Day, Forrest said: “It’s just the same as every game you play here, you look to try and contribute in one way or another, and I was delighted with that. I think our attacking play, especially in the first-half, was really good.

“The squad is really strong and the quality is there, so the manager just keeps wanting everybody to keep playing the same way, and we’ll get the amount of goals we did on Saturday in many more games to come.

'We had a really busy period before we had the break, and there are a lot of big games coming up, so it’s good that everyone’s getting minutes and everyone’s feeling good.'

This will be the second meeting between Celtic and Hibernian this season. When the sides met in Glasgow back in October, Ange Postecoglou’s side ran out 6-1 winner, with James Forrest scoring a hat-trick which included his 100th goal for the club.

And the Hoops winger is looking forward to facing a Hibs side who enjoyed a comfortable 4-0 home win over Livingston at the weekend, with his former Celtic team-mate, Aiden McGeady, in the Edinburgh side’s ranks.

“Easter Road’s a good place to play and Hibs is always a difficult game there, so we’ll be looking forward to that when it comes around on Wednesday,” Forrest said.

“When I was a young boy coming through here, I always looked up to Aiden. I think he’s 36 now but I saw him playing last year at Sunderland and he was still looking sharp, so he’ll definitely be a threat when we play them.

“All the young boys coming through, you always looked to players in your position and I watched him so many times over the years, so it’ll be good to play against him.”
