The Celtic B team returned to winning ways with an impressive 6-0 victory over Edinburgh University today (Saturday).

Adam Brooks was the goal hero for the Hoops, hitting a hat-trick, while Owen Moffat, Ben Summers and Joey Dawson were also on target.

Celtic started the game on the front foot and opened the scoring after just three minutes. Mackenzie Carse and Joey Dawson combined well in the middle of the park before the latter slotted a ball through for Adam Brooks.

And the young striker showed great composure inside the box to slot the ball beyond the goalkeeper and into the net.

And on 12 minutes, Brooks grabbed his second of the game to double Celtic’s lead, pouncing on a terrible goal-kick from the keeper which he intercepted on the edge of the area. He moved forward a couple of yards before steering the ball into the net.

It was the Edinburgh University goalkeeper who redeemed himself when he denied Brooks a hat-trick with a save on 17 minutes, with Ben Wylie shooting just wide from the rebound.

And two minutes later, Owen Moffat surged into the box, before spinning past a defender and shooting, but his effort was also saved.

And on 24 minutes, Brooks came close again with another effort, but was denied once more by the keeper.

However, on 32 minutes, Tommy McIntyre’s side scored a well-deserved third goal. Brooks was fouled on the edge of the area, and Owen Moffat stepped up to curl a superb effort into the top-left hand corner of the net.

The home side had a couple of long-range efforts which did not trouble Tobi Oluwayemi, and the Hoops comfortably saw out the first-half.

Edinburgh University started the second half intent on trying to reduce the deficit and within 60 seconds they had fashioned a chance but the shot from the edge of the box was weak.

Five minutes later, they had a better chance, and this time Oluwayemi did well to save the shot. And the Celtic keeper almost gifted the home side a chance just 60 seconds later with a slack pass, but he made amends by saving the resulting shot.

On 56 minutes, Celtic made it 4-0. Ben Summers started and finished the moving, showing some great footwork inside the box to fashion some space and finish well.

And just two minutes later, Brooks made it 5-0 with his hat-trick. A free-kick from the left flank was headed on to far post where the Celtic striker was on hand to slot it home.

If it hadn’t been for the heroics of the Edinburgh goalkeeper, Brooks could have probably doubled his tally as he continued to cause the home defence problems.

And both of Celtic’s substitutes, Bruno Davidson and Tsoanelo Letsosa had chances that went wide.

Joey Dawson made it 6-0 for Celtic in the 84th minute, converting from a couple of yards out after a superb cross in from the right.

It was a good performance and result from the young Hoops, who bounced back from their draw against Gretna. Next up for Celtic is a home game against league leaders, Bonnyrigg Rose.
