“Those memories are unbelievable and you look at the next season when Martin O’Neill came in and we won the treble, we were creating history.

'I still grin about it now, it was the best season of my career.'

“I remember the St Mirren game, it was a 12.30pm kick-off on a Saturday, it was red hot, my family and friends were there, 60,000 in the stand, the script was written.

“Henrik Larsson got the ball and laid it to me and I nearly missed! The ball bobbled under my foot but I managed to squirm it under the keeper.

“After that, I was desperate for no one else to score and to keep it 1-0 and then when the whistle blew it was just an unbelievable experience.

'I’ve won things in the past but that day was special to me.'

“It got even better after because the Grand National was on after and I never bet but I put a horse on and I won, so that was up there with the best Saturdays in my life.”
