The Hoops experienced a historic season just past, winning the Scottish Cup, coming agonisingly close to a first league title and also setting new attendance records for the women’s game in Scotland. And that’s something the new Hoops goalkeeper is looking forward to being part of.

“First and foremost, it’s about coming into the squad and getting a sense of my role and who I’m going to be in the team,” she explained, “and then looking forward, we want to lift the trophy and we’re looking forward to the Champions League as well.

“That’s actually one of the coolest things (of joining Celtic), is that you see how fast it all happens – from being professionalised to getting record-breaking crowds.

'I think it’s going to grow really fast in the next few years as well, so I’m excited to be a part of that.'

“The people are one of the best parts about coming to a new place. I’ve only been in for two days so I’m still in the early stages of that but I’m super excited to get to know everyone as people and as footballers.”

And as for the type of goalkeeper that Celtic fans can look forward to watching when she does play for the first-team, Kelsey Daugherty is a player who will be heard as well as seen on the pitch.

“I like to be a part of the game and communicate and be part of the team, and come up big when necessary,” she said.

“Nowadays you have to be able to play, ping balls with your feet and it’s really elevated the whole position, and just being able to see that much of the field that you can lead from behind.

“We had a short talk (with Fran Alonso), and I was super excited to hear about how we’re going to play – playing out from the back, keeping the ball, having possession and being part of the team

“I hope it plays to my strengths and it also makes it more fun, being part of the team and being involved all the time."
