After another impressive victory at the Excelsior Stadium this afternoon (Sunday), Celtic FC Women’s boss Fran Alonso praised his entire squad for their level of performance.

The Ghirls maintained their terrific start to the 2023/24 campaign as they won 9-0 against Dundee United.

With eight different scorers getting their name on the scoresheet, it was a strong attacking display from the Hoops.

Speaking to Celtic TV after the match, Alonso was delighted with his squad’s performance as whole, particularly after a busy week of action.

He said: “I thought we were excellent. In the first half, it was almost perfect. We didn’t tell the girls because we wanted them to keep pushing.

“But overall, it was an outstanding performance up against a team that has just kept a clean sheet against Hibs away, which is a very tough game.

“So we knew that they are very organised defensively, but I thought today we were unplayable. It was fantastic.

“Credit to the girls, and also to the younger ones that started for the first time like Clare Goldie and Tiree Burchill, and Amy Sharkey coming on and scoring a goal too.

'The future of the club is in a very good place and the girls are flying at the moment.'

“We haven’t won anything, so it’s not time to get complacent. It’s time to push even harder to make sure this performance is what we reach every game.

“But I am very proud because this is not easy, especially in a week where we played three games.”

Going into the game, the Celtic manager was able to make a number of changes to the squad that took three points on the road against Spartans in midweek.

Despite those changes, the Ghirls continued to produce the high levels of performance they've shown in the early stages of the campaign.

With so many of his players on form, the Spaniard insists that his squad are currently giving the coaching staff a positive headache with their team selection.

“The players make our lives as coaches so hard, because they all push and so many deserve to start,” he said.

“But you can only pick eleven players. The good thing is, whoever we pick, they respond with quality, aggression and concentration, which is probably the most important thing for me.

“They go out and put on a performance like that. Next week is going to be a nightmare again to pick the team, because so many girls deserve to start, but that is a very positive nightmare to have.

'So it’s all about working hard, keep pushing and let’s try to put another performance on Sunday as good as today.'

After just four games, the Hoops have already found their way to goal 30 times, adding another nine goals to their tally against Dundee United.

Following another terrific performance, the squad will now have a few days off after three games in the last seven days.

However, Fran Alonso insists the Ghirls will be straight back to work on Wednesday as they eye up another three points next Sunday against Hibernian.

“We have already scored 30 goals in four games, which is incredible," he said. "Even last year, which I thought we were very good, we were never anywhere near this level.

“I know despite the opponents, for me, the quality of the decision making and focus of the girls, it gives me a lot of confidence that it could be a very good year for us.

‘So far, 30 goals in four games, what else can you do. We have conceded only one goal, so it’s fantastic.’

“But it’s important to keep our feet on the ground because we haven’t won anything. They deserve two days off now!

“They’ve not had two days off for a while, but on Wednesday we will go again. We will go 100 per cent to make sure we put in another good performance and hopefully three points next Sunday.”
