Celtic FC Women’s manager Fran Alonso was delighted with the 3-0 win over Hibernian on Sunday, and with the performance his side produced over the 90 minutes.

After securing their place in the Scottish Cup final last weekend, the Ghirls returned to league action at the Excelsior Stadium, and goals from Amy Gallacher, Chloe Craig and Tash Flint delivered another three points for the Hoops.

Speaking to Celtic TV after the match, Fran Alonso praised his side for their dominant display, particularity after the efforts put into their last few games in recent weeks.

He said: “I really liked how we played. We had total control of the game against a very tough opponent.

“We maybe could have been a little bit more clinical in the final third, but I really enjoyed how we had control of the entire game.

“We knew it was going to be tough, especially after a week where we had three games, so there would be a few tired legs.

‘I’m also pleased that we were able to rotate the squad. During the last four games, every single first team player has had an impact on the squad.‘

“Overall, it was a great day. Three points, another clean sheet and now five games to go!”

With so much at stake at the top of the SWPL heading into the final six games of the campaign, a fast start to each match is important as the Celts continue their fight for the league title.

The Ghirls made the ideal start to proceedings on Sunday, opening the scoring via a stunning Amy Gallacher strike from the edge of the area after just 19 minutes.

That was soon followed by goals either side of the half, which sent the Hoops well on their way to victory, and the Celtic manager was pleased with how his side applied themselves throughout in what could have proved to be a potential tricky match-up.

“From the first whistle I thought we were very good,” he said. "We could have scored a few more, but credit to Hibs, they were very good in terms of defensive organisation.

‘At times, I thought we were unplayable. The girls were very disciplined and their positioning on the pitch was fantastic.’

“Obviously there was maybe a few better decisions that could have been made, but the reaction to it was really good.

“I am very happy because we knew today it wasn’t going to be easy. Before today, there was six games to go. We had six finals left, today we won the first final of the six. So we have five to go now.

“I am just very happy, because the whole squad is contributing, everyone is up for it. No matter who we put out there on Thursday, I know they are going to do well."

As the season enters the latter stages, the fixtures keep on coming for the Hoops. Next up is a huge Glasgow derby clash against Rangers on Thursday evening.

Fran Alonso added: “We are looking forward to going again in front of our fans here on Thursday night.

"We have had a great record in these games so far this season, so hopefully we can put in another strong performance.

"We know it isn’t going to be easy, but I have every faith in the squad that we can come away with the result we are aiming for."
