Scotland have two Nations League games coming up – a home game against Belgium preceded by a match against World Cup runner-up, England.

And for Clark, it’s a great opportunity for the Scotland players to test themselves against one of the world’s best teams.

“I can’t wait,” she said. “The Lionesses’ journey in the past couple of years has been phenomenal. What they’ve done for women’s football in the UK is genuinely hard to put into words.

“Here in Scotland we’ve seen the impact the Euros had a couple of years ago, with the increase in numbers, and the World Cup has been similar.

“So I can’t wait to play against them. They’re one of the world’s best and it’s who you want to be challenging yourself against and there’s obviously the added bonus of that historical rivalry.

“So it’s a game to look forward to and one that I’m very grateful to get to experience and I’m looking forward to meeting up with the girls on Monday.”

Not surprisingly, Fran Alonso is very proud of any international recognition his players receive, and he believes it’s a positive reflection of the work that’s happening at Celtic.

“Amy has a different responsibility this year,” the Celtic manager said.

'Last year she had a deeper role and she was excellent with an incredible goalscoring and assist record, and she was very unlucky not to be in the national team because she deserved it.'

“She has been on a few provisional lists but never selected for the main squad and now she’s shown everyone why she should be there.

“Both Amy and Kelly are two players who have been key for us and have been rewarded, and I think it will be good for them. Hopefully, they do well with two massive games against England and Belgium.”

“We also have a couple of players going to the Under-23s, so it’s exciting to have players who have never been called up by their national teams and are now getting called up because of the work they’re doing with Celtic.

“I’m very proud that we are making international players so it’s fantastic for them.”
