Following on from the dramatic 3-2 comeback win over Hearts, the same three points were the target, but Fran Alonso’s side was hoping for less drama.

After going 2-0 down in six minutes on Wednesday, Celtic learned their lessons as they dominated from the start to ensure no repeat up in Aberdeen.

Yet, they found a stubborn home side that was difficult to break down, with the first shot on target falling to Caitlin Hayes on 13 minutes with a header from a corner.

Gaps were starting to appear in Aberdeen’s shape and the Ghirls seized upon them on the 17^th minute through an exquisite passing move, ending with a terrific cross from Amy Gallacher to the back post for Natalie Ross who unfortunately steered her shot over the bar.

Nourimane Addi was next to try her luck with the Celtic pressure building, then on the 32^nd minute, Kit Loferski had an effort cleared off the line by a scrambling Aberdeen goalkeeper after the American had lifted a shot over the keeper’s head.

The first-half goal did arrive on the 41^st minute and it was duly deserved, with Chloe Craig putting the Hoops into the lead.

An in-swinging corner from the right missed everyone in the box and clipped the far post, with Addi retrieving possession and curling a stunning shot beyond Annalisa McCann in goal but again the post denied Celtic.

However, on the third attempt, the ball fell directly to Craig six yards out who had the easy task of heading into an empty net with McCann still on the floor.

The left-side post was getting a battering and it got in the way once again in first-half stoppage time when Gallacher sent a first-time shot from 20 yards out towards the top left corner, but just as it looked to be dipping in it cannoned off the woodwork.

Gallacher saw the last chance of the first-half come off the post and the first chance of the second-half also followed suit.

17 minutes into the second period, Hayes picked out the run of the Scotland forward down the right channel and bearing down on goal she smashed an effort toward the near-post, but again, the woodwork prevented her and Celtic.

The chances were rolling in at this stage as the Aberdeen goal was leading a charmed life, with opportunities falling the way of Addi and Loferski but neither could get a shot on goal as blocks came flying in inside a congested penalty area.

Finally, the pressure paid and the second goal arrived through Shen Menglu. Excellent work down the left sent the wing-back flying into space inside the box, but she still had everything to do as she cut in onto her right-foot and deceived the keeper by sneaking a shot in at the near-post.

If that goal was good, Jenny Smith’s three minutes later was even better as she slammed in a contender for goal of the season.

The summer signing and second-half substitute picked the ball up some 35 yards from goal and with one thought in her mind, she rifled a shot into the top-right corner to make sure the points would be heading back down to Glasgow.

Having shown what she could do with her right foot, Smith showed what her left could offer as she scored another stunning on the 85th minute, receiving the ball 20 yards from goal and smashing a shot into the top right corner.

Job done in Aberdeen, now it's a two-week international break with the next league game for the Ghirls coming against Glasgow City.
