Celtic are on the road again this Saturday as they take on Motherwell at Fir Park (KO: 12.30pm), and Brendan Rodgers’ side are aiming to maintain their place at the top of the Premiership table with another strong performance.

They face a Motherwell side that started the season well, although they have lost their two most recent league games, so they will be aiming to try and bounce back with a positive result against the champions.

Speaking ahead of the game at Fir Park, Brendan Rodgers said: “Motherwell are obviously very well-coached, first and foremost.

"When I see them play, they play the shape very well – defending 5-4-1 and then they morph into 3-4-3 when they have the ball.

'They all look very clear in terms of what it is they’re doing, and they have a nice mixture in the game.'

"They build the game short but they can also build it long as well, so I think Stuart has done very well there.

“He’s obviously gone in and coached them very well and going to Motherwell is always a tough game.”

The Irishman has plenty of experience of playing at Fir Park from his previous spell in charge of Celtic, which included a thrilling 4-3 victory in December 2016 during the Invincibles' season.

On that occasion, the Hoops found themselves trailing 2-0 at half-time but battled back to take all three points thanks to a last-gasp Tom Rogic goal.

“In my experiences of going there it’s a tough game and always a really good atmosphere," said the Celtic manager.

“The pitch is normally fantastic so it should be a very good football game. So we’ll prepare for a tough game.”

Defender Nat Phillips could back in the squad for this weekend, having resumed training, while Cameron Carter-Vickers is continuing to progress well, although he won’t be ready until after the October international break.
