Coming up against Motherwell in the league has proved to be a potential banana skin for Celtic FC Women in the past.

However, that wasn’t the case for Elena Sadiku’s side on Wednesday evening as the Ghirls ran out 2-0 winners at K Park.

Last campaign, the Hoops were held to a 0-0 draw against the team from North Lanarkshire, but any chance of that happening agina was put to bed following goals from Caitlin Hayes and Amy Gallacher.

Although there were aspects of the performance that Sadiku and her players will want to improve upon, ultimately victory was the most important thing for the Celts.

Speaking to Celtic TV after the match, captain Kelly Clark reflected that opinion with her assessment on the game, admitting that the squad want to improve upon those types of performances.

She said: “Its three points, which is all that matters. It was difficult playing conditions, but it’s difficult for both teams, so no excuses.

“I don’t really have much else, because I don’t think we were really great on the night. We have to control games better.

‘But three points is the most important and we managed to get the job done.’

“It’s obviously been a different couple of months. We’ve been in a transition and we are still all getting used to it.

“We are looking to play the style of play that we want to play, and I think we showed that tonight in spells, especially on the ball.

“But at times you can see people maybe hesitating, the decision making is not always the best. But its things that we can improve on and we need to improve on quickly.”
