Progressing her team has been a key motive for Elena Sadiku since her arrival in Glasgow.

And the building blocks within her Celtic FC Women squad were clear for all to see once more on Sunday afternoon as the Ghirls were held to a 1-1 draw against Rangers.

Playing out the third Glasgow derby of the season at Ibrox in front of a Rangers-only support, it could have proved to be a tricky afternoon for the Celts.

However, the Hoops fought throughout the 90 minutes, coming away with a point as Tash Flint’s second-half opener was pegged back by the home side.

Ultimately, taking a point away from Ibrox could prove to be an important point come the end of the season.

However, it showcases the efforts and performance from the Ghirls to come away from Sunday’s match frustrated not to be taking all three home.

Speaking to Celtic TV after the match, Elena Sadiku was left slighted frustrated after watching her side create some big opportunities. But overall, the Swede was pleased with her side’s performance on a whole.

She said: “The first feeling I have is that it feels hard in some ways, because we created a lot of chances that we should have scored. But obviously I think we put in a good performance.

‘We did a pretty good job to put in that performance, which should have got us three points.’

“It maybe comes from nerves a little bit at the beginning. But I think we grew into the game.

“We did really well, and I think in the second half we should have won the game. We put in such a good performance in the second half, and I’m really proud of the girls’ effort.

“But obviously when they score to make it 1-1, that gives them energy. But we also had some chances to win the game after that too.”
