It proved to be disappointing afternoon for the Celtic FC Women’s squad, who suffered just their second league defeat of the campaign.

Travelling to take on Glasgow City, a goal inside the opening 30 seconds of the match was enough for the home side to take all three points from the match with a 1-0 win.

It was a game of very few chances in blustery conditions at Petershill Park, with Fiona Brown’s early goal proving to be the defining moment of the 90 minutes.

Speaking to Celtic TV after the match, Celtic Head Coach, Elena Sadiku said: “It was very frustrating, first of all because we started the game off not being really ready, and conceded a goal really early in the game.

“But then, I said it to the girls after, that they didn’t really have more than that, and then we didn’t create enough to win the game.

'That is the biggest frustration, how we lost the game. We didn’t create enough to win the game.'

“Obviously everybody was very frustrated because we didn’t really push forward and create many chances.

“That is something that we need to fix because to win games we need to get into situations where we can score goals.

“That is something that we didn’t do well today, so we will need to look at how to improve that.”

Following on from a good week of training at Barrowfield, it comes as a frustration to Sadiku to have lost out at Petershill, having seen first-hand what her players are capable of.

That is something the Swede and her coaching staff will aim to rectify, with another match quickly on the horizon next Sunday afternoon as the Hoops travel to face Hamilton Accies in the Scottish Cup.

“The most important thing that we need to do is that we need to be more confident in ourselves when we play because there is so much potential in this team," she said, “but we haven’t really showed it today out on the pitch.

"We’ve come off the back of a very good training week, where we have been looking sharp, and then when we come to the game, it just looks different and that is something that we need to fix.

'Like I said, there is potential in this team but we can’t really live up to it. So that is something that we need to fix very fast.'

“We play against Hamilton Accies in the cup next weekend. That is a week where we just need to get back into getting more confident and attacking the goal.

“That is something that we need to do in these games, we need to be on top. That is what need to do this week. We need to be sharp in training and show that we are a good football team.”
