Today, Friday, April 11, marks World Parkinson’s Day and Celtic FC Foundation is once again proud to support this important campaign and help raise awareness for those living with the condition.

Parkinson’s remains the fastest growing neurological condition in the world. In Scotland alone, around 13,000 people are living with Parkinson’s, with over 30 new diagnoses every week.

Since early 2023, Celtic FC Foundation has been working alongside Parkinson’s UK and Glasgow Life to provide free weekly walking football sessions in Glasgow.

Held at Glasgow Life’s Toryglen Regional Football Centre, the sessions are completely free for people living with Parkinson’s. Our aim is to continue reaching more individuals, particularly those not currently engaged in physical activity, and help them experience the physical and social benefits of the game.

And today, on World Parkinson’s Day 2025, we’re thrilled to welcome a group of participants from our Walking Football project to Celtic Park for a special celebration lunch.

Celtic FC Foundation Chief Executive, Tony Hamilton, said: “Thanks to the generosity of one of our valued supporters, we’re proud to run this weekly initiative for people living with Parkinson’s.

“Our vision is to expand the project, welcoming even more participants each week as we continue to build our partnership with Glasgow Life and Parkinson’s UK.

“There is clear evidence that physical activity like this has a positive impact on those living with Parkinson’s, and we’re thrilled to be contributing as part of a wider collaborative effort.”
