Alexandro Bernabei
Alexandro Bernabei became Celtic’s third signing of the 2022/23 season and in moving to Glasgow he also became the first player from Argentina to sign for the Hoops. A left-back by trade, Bernabei has impressed in the top flight of Argentinian football and it was those performances that earned him his move to the east end of Glasgow.
Growing up in the province of Santa Fe in Argentina, Bernabei moved to the capital city Buenos Aires as a teenager, looking to make his mark as a youth academy product at Club Atletico Lanus. The left-back made his competitive debut in October 2019 in a league win over CA Talleres, scoring six minutes into his first appearance.
He would go on to make more than 30 appearances in his first season and his consistency earned him a call-up to the Argentina Under-23 national team, making his debut in March 2021 against Japan, a match that also featured current teammate, Reo Hatate.
Throughout his time at Lanus, he made more than 85 appearances, scoring five goals and providing 10 assists, as he became a regular feature in starting XI.
That form saw him rewarded with a move to Celtic FC, where in his first season he was part of the treble winning squad, debuted in the champions League against RB Leipzig and scored his first goal against Ross County in April.
